Product: Deonat Deodorant Stick

Finally, the correct Deonat Deodorant Stick. After more than a year, I've finally used up the Deo Fresh Deodorant that I reviewed here. If you read my previous post, you'll learn that I was intending to buy Deonat but mistakenly picked Deo Fresh because they look almost the same.

But when it was time to buy a new deodorant, I made sure I picked the right natural deodorant stick: Deonat.

Like the first one, Deonat is a made of natural alum crystal or tawas. It was shaped and smoothened so it will easily glide on the underarms. I choose the variant infused with Aloe because it is said to soothe and moisturize the skin. And for comparative purpose as well, because the Deo Fresh that I bought before has Aloe also.

At first glance, they look pretty much the same. The Deonat alum crystal is light green while Deo Fresh is just white, which makes me wonder if the green color is because of the Aloe extract or just product coloring (but Deonat claims it has NO added coloring). Despite the color, it leaves no residue, white or otherwise, on my clothes.

Deonat also has an expiration date, a novelty that I appreciate because at least I'll know that the product I'm applying on my body is still safe to use.

You use it the same way, by wetting the top with water and applying it on clean underarms, preferably after a bath.

They are both NOT anti-perspirant so I didn't expect for Deonat to keep me dry. And it doesn't. As a deodorant, I think it's doing a good job. I don't have body odor and my underarms smell okay most of the time even when they're sweaty, except when I have a thick undergrowth because I am growing my underarm hair in preparation for waxing. Underarm hair is a major culprit in offensive body odor. But it's not really a strong repulsive smell like a bad B.O. but rather the scent of sweat and hair mixed together. And applying Deonat after taking a bath takes care of that problem.

I thought Deonat glides more smoothly on the skin and smells better, too. It also made my underarm skin feels softer and silkier. But I can't tell if it whitens the skin because I'm alternating it with Human Heart Nature Sunflower Oil, which I've proven to have whitening properties as well.

Overall, I think I like Deonat Deodorant Stick better than Deo Fresh. Price is almost the same, so I'll go for the better product.

Product: Deo Fresh Deodorant Stick

When I was pregnant, I decided to use mostly natural products and avoided those that contain active ingredients, which are said to be harmful to an unborn child. So when I needed to replace my whitening deodorant, I bought this deodarant that comes in the form of a smooth alum crystal stick, which I thought was Deonat, a deo product made from ammonium alum and claims to contain no chemicals and skin irritants.

It was only after a few months of using it when I found out that the brand name is Deo Fresh [Deodorant Stick], and not Deonat. Both deodorants have almost identical packaging, except that  Deo Fresh has the word "TAWAS" on the base. I guess, I didn't bother to read the label when I purchased it because I thought that Deonat is the only one of its kind in the market. Of course, I realize now that such product is a rarity.

Deonat or not, I continued using it anyway. I'm not the type who would throw away a product just because it turned out to be a different brand. Besides, it's also made from ammonium alum, and aloe leaf juice, or so the label claimed. But is it good or at least worth the P170+ tag price (which is more expensive than most local brands)?

Product: Godiva Inhibition

When I was looking for a new deo to try (after using Avon's Quelch for soooo many years), Godiva Inhibition Deodorant was among the most recommended. It's conveniently sold at most Watson's branches and was said to live up to its claims, so my choice was made easily.

Godiva Inhibition is a roll-on deo. And being a roll-on, I noted and experienced the usual complaints such as longer drying time, hence the sticky, wet feeling when not dried thoroughly and the yellow stain on clothes. I think there are no other options--no spray, no stick, no cream variants--to choose from so if you are averse to anything with balls on top, I'd say cross this out from your list.

But if you don't care about the manner of application, you might be interested in its product claims. According to the label, Godiva Inhibition can help lessen hair growth, which means less waxing, less shaving, less laser treatment is needed. Add that to the whitening and antiperspirant properties, this would seem to be the best deodorant that will ever touch your armpit.

But is there any truth to the claims?

As an antiperspirant, it wasn't impressive because there were times when I felt wet. Honestly, I doubt if it can keep me dry and comfortable during hot humid summer months. If I apply too much, I'd get icky yellow stains on my clothes. If I apply less, I'd get soaked underarms.

As a whitening product, I did see some changes, but nothing significant. Perhaps the most significant is that it didn't darken my underarms.

As for impeding hair growth, I really can't tell because I pluck my underarm hair often (which is a bad practice, I know) and if they were growing slower, the difference was very minimal for me to notice. Although I did observe that my chicken-skin (that I got from plucking) got softer and smoother since I started using Godiva Inhibition.

I forgot how much it costs (it didn't go beyond P200, I'm sure of that) because it's been a while since I used up my first bottle and have decided to switch to a different deodorant. Overall, it's an okay product. But I chose to try another brand because of its inability to keep me dry at all-times, the hassle of waiting for it to dry, and the yellow stains that it leaves on my clothes.
